Mission

The Midland Arts Association is in its 43rd year of serving area artists.

The purpose of MAA, as stated in the by-laws, includes : to encourage a community of interest between professional and lay people in all forms of art; to widen the scope of potential experience in art by sponsoring art events; to offer artists opportunities to display their work and to offer the public a means of witnessing what is being done; to encourage amateur artists and to create an atmosphere of coordinated effort between the amateur and the professional; and to promote other educational, charitable, civic and educational objectives.

MAA sponsors two juried exhibits each year.

The spring exhibit is in collaboration with the Museum of the Southwest.  Slide entries are accepted and juried by a different well-known artist each spring.  The exhibit usually hangs during March or April.

The fall exhibit is in conjunction with Midland College and is exhibited in McCormick Gallery in the Allison Fine Arts Building on campus.  This show accepts the actual works to be juried, rather than slides.  Works are delivered to the campus, juried by a well-known artist and exhibited.  The fall show usually hangs during October.

Each of the MAA shows offers $4000 in cash awards.  Both shows are an excellent way for beginning and experienced artists to have their work displayed. 

Sometimes, workshops by the juror are offered to the public at a reasonable cost.  Many times the juror also speaks and/or demonstrates for students at Midland College.
